What & How to Take Kitchen Accessories With You - Basic Guidelines

Many times it happens that we bring far too many things with us, more than we actually need. We must bear in mind that vessels do not have big refrigerators and freezers. This is the reason why we must be very careful when packing foodstuffs, and also packaged goods, because there might be many leftovers. It is advisable to put the food you take with you into “soft“ cooling bags, for they will save some space on boats, and will be useful when you will use them as a “back-up“ refrigerator, for storing fruit and drinks.

We kindly recommend that you organize at least a part of your trip at home, so you can moderate your "menu", and combine where and when you will eat out in restaurants, so you will not trouble yourselves with excess food.

  • Make sure you stop at a supermarket on your way, before you go on the vessel
  • Meat should be vacuum packaged, for each individual meal of people onboard; this is especially important when eating ready-made products such as prosciutto-dry cured ham, salamis…
  • Since you will be enjoying yourselves at the seaside, you may feel the urge for fish. If your crew is not experienced in fishing, you can go to the fishmongers in the marines you visit, especially the ones at the island are fresher than on the coast (be careful with the local dealers though)
  • Fresh food is available at the marines and it is best to consume it daily, and it is better if it is vacuum packaged
  • Fresh fruit and vegetables are best stored at the bottom of the vessel, because the temperature there is usually half the outside temperature
  • Keep your drink in half litre bottles, so it will not warm too quickly when you have it on the deck
